Iridomyrmex
The first-ever species-level revision of
Iridomyrmex will be completed using both morphology and molecular data sources. A detailed alpha-level taxonomic understanding of these exceptionally common ants is needed to allow a wide range of information to be incorporated into field (NRM) monitoring and related projects. A field guide to all of the
Iridomyrmex species is being prepared as part of this project, in addition to the rigorous taxonomic treatment. This field guide is intended for use by non-taxonomic specialists, such as ecologists, land managers and environmental specialists. It will be electronically generated on demand using the most recently available information, ensuring that it is always up to date, and can be based on a specific region so that only local species are included, simplifying the field guide and increasing its relevance for local users.
General
The first draft of the revision of
Iridomyrmex has now been completed and is
available for comment. Please have a look and send us your thoughts.
Trees
The next round of preliminary trees are in! Note that these are based on CO1 for a limited number of specimens. Additional specimens and genes are currently in the lab. Please ignore
splendens, something's seriously wrong with this sample :-(.
- Parsimony Bootstrap Tree (for some idea about the statistical support for each node)
- Likelihood Tree (for which branch length is roughly proportional to the time since speciation)
